Welcome to ShopNatural.Coop, your source for natural foods and related items for more than thirty years. I am very excited to welcome you to our upgraded website. ShopNatural has been known as Tucson Cooperative Warehouse since 1974. We decided that it was time to spring into the 21st century and not keep people guessing about what it is that we do. We think our new name gives a better sense of the type of business that we are.
We are proud of our cooperative heritage and hope that over time we will introduce more and more people to this valuable business form that we feel brings value to its owners, customers, our communities and the Earth itself. Our values are ones that we believe are increasingly necessary in these times as we see the results of global capitalism and its impacts on the peoples of the world and the planet we live on. We support environmentally responsible food production and the use of the Earth’s resources. We believe that all people have the right to clean air and water and to food grown without pesticides, hormones or other products that attempt to disrupt or manipulate the natural rhythms and forces of nature. We feel it is our responsibility to educate people and to provide healthy and wholesome alternatives.
As a member of the board of directors I feel both privileged and honored to be associated with this business. The board works to develop a vision and direction for the business that will guide us into the future in a way that supports and models our values while providing a valuable service to people all around our planet. In the short term, we see increasing need for distribution of our product in an affordable and responsible manner. In the long term, we hope that more and more of these products will be available to people from local sources, produced less than 500 miles from where they are consumed. We see it as inappropriate and unsustainable for the average food item to travel more than 1500 miles from production to consumption. We will work more and more in our educational efforts to help people grow and process a healthy diet within their region. This will not only help to reduce fuel consumption but also help counter the alienation and estrangement from the natural world and the source of our food that is one of the sad results of the consolidations and transitions that have occurred in recent years in world agriculture.
