Financial Accountant

Position Title: Financial Accountant
Department: Finance
FLSA: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: Assists Finance Manager in all general accounting, internal control, accounts receivable and payables accounting functions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance , Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience.
2. Two years experience in general accounting, including one year supervisory experience.
3. Thorough knowledge of all accounting and tax related legislation, regulations and reporting procedures.
4. Thorough understanding of all accounting functional areas.
5. Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to use spreadsheets and accounting software programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the following:

1. Maintain the general ledger, journal entries, related data and account reconciliations and analysis required to prepare accurate, timely financial statements.
2. Oversee the preparation of financial statistics and ensure the accuracy of financial information, including the application of cross-checking.
3. Implement and recommend improvements to internal control and accounting systems.
4. Supervise, train and assist the Finance Department staff in the completion of their duties.
5. Establish and implement Finance Department methods and procedures.
6. Assure timely payments of sales tax and all other related taxes.
7. Prepare for the annual financial audit.
8. Assist in budget preparation.
9. Maintain the Finance Department procedures manuals.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs other work related duties as assigned by the Finance Manager or General Manager.
